Countach QV #GLA12997

Since I'm owning my car it had problems with water temperature, I think my former owners tried to cure this with a second oilcooler placed in front of the right water radiator.
Well, this didn't help too much, on the way back from Holland from the Viva Italia Event, at 35 degrees Celsius I had an indicated water temp of 110 degrees.
On the club event of LCCG in Austria and Italia I had the opportunity to check my car against a 25th Anniversary.

The Anniversary got stronger fans and also Lamborghini mounted the Airfilter boxes lenghtwise instead of sidewise and installed the outlet on the plastic part directly behind the radiators...!
We visited Orvieto one evening and after the Highway run I checked how efficient the fans are pulling on both cars, on my QV you could hardly feel any air pulling in front of the radiator, on the 25th there was a strong air flow.
Now I knew what to do at home...

Now I was on the research for stronger fans, I had a lot of communication with SPAL of Italy directly.
We found out, that the fans used on the QV (VA01 AP13 25A) had an airflow of 1800 m3/h = 1060 cfm, now they have a fan with over 2760m3/h = 1630cfm, it's the VA01 AP6 36A which was used on the 25th Anniversary!
Now you know why the 25th never had thermic problems...
The benefit of the SPAL is, you can exchange them without problems, you unscrew it from the radiator and put in the new one, connect with the same wires and you're done.

The fans can be ordered at SPAL-USA or from SPAL-Germany , it's important to use the 305mm blade fans, this is the 12" version, there is no room to install a bigger one!

The advantage of VA01-AP6-36A (which is used in the 25th Anniversary) you can immediately install it in the QV since the mount are identical (90 degree offset, mounting hooks).

Whereas the VA10 fan, you can use only two of the original mount and need one special holder per fan:

I installed the VA01-AP6-36A in my car and on two others the VA10-AP50/C-25A.
Check newest fan specifications for the best result in terms of air flow and current consumption.

16 years old fan VA01 AP13 25A, the new one VA01 AP6 36A (Photo below), has a wider motor but is not as deep

To unmount and reinstall the fans you need to remove the aluminum hood above the radiator, you can see it is attached on the fender with 3 screws, specially the outer one is hard to access.
Simple trick, unmount the louvres on the fenders, then you can access the screws easily from behind...
On the front part the hood is attached with 2 screws, one at each side, remove the little louvre, as described on the Air filter installation, and the are accessable.
